Hello, all! It's about 6 p.m. here in Regensburg, my Dad's hometown. Just spent the afternoon with my cousin and his wife...an emotional time as we saw the house where my Dad was born and raised and all of
the places in the city he spent time at. It's a fascinating city that was built by the Romans about 1,000 years ago, and you can still see evidence of that all over the city. I have many amazing photos to show you when I return!! Yesterday we toured Nuremburg, the city that is the industrial and transportation center of southern Germany. It was also the place where Hitler built a coliseum for his speeches and Nazi gatherings at Zeppelin Field....yes, where the Hindenburg comes from! It was reallly eerie to be at places where Hitler once stood. But Nuremburg is also where you'll see this grand castle built over 1000 years ago, complete with a moat around it!
One funny thing I've been seeing in the cities like Munich and Regensburg....ALDI stores!! Yes, Aldi started as a discount store in southern Germany and is owned by the 2 richest brothers in the world. Very odd to see theses stores here.
Today is "Bavaria Day" on our cruise ship, so all the waiters are dressed in Lederhosen and there will soon be a performance by some Bavarian folk singers. After dinner we play some trivia games.
Will be in Passau tomorrow and will see more cousins.....what a special experience it will be to meet more
relatives. Stay tuned for more postings! Until then, take care and God bless!
