Nuremberg Trials Exhibit
History of the Trials:
History and Legacy of Nuremberg Trials/National Holocaust Museum
View from our bus of the unfinished coliseum that Hitler ordered built for him as a rally site for the Nazi movement. It was really eerie being there.
View of the monstrous structure from across the lake. Behind us is the infamous Zeppelin Field where the Nazi rallies continued with shows of military might and laser light shows at night to entertain and mesmerize the Nazi leaders and followers. Also, it is where the Hindenburg landed.
Read more about this aircraft at:
The Hindenburg
Our tour guide gave us a lot of background information here, displaying the full extent of the Nazi presence in Nuremberg.
Here we are on Zeppelin Field. It was a staging area for Nazi marches and military "shows". The grandstand was where Hitler himself would view the shows with his commanders and partners in crime. The city of Nuremberg is in a state of conflict as to what to do with this field and the huge seating areas. It is in need of renovation, but the city is strapped for cash. Yet others want it to be preserved as a reminder of what can happen when ruthless dictators take over the minds and freedoms of a population.
At the edge of Zeppelin Field...a storage place for Nazi supplies
Dr. Taylor, our distinguished tour director.....a wealth of knowledge not only about the touring business (He's been all over the world with groups!) but of the cultural and historical backgrounds of so many places we visited. Thanks, Dr. Taylor! (He was a professor for many years at the University of Illinois.)

An old cemetery on the way to the Castle
Another cemetery filled with roses! And notice the graves are all above ground!
Entering the Castle area....the next several photos are of the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg.

Leaving the Castle for the marketplace at Nuremberg Plaza in the heart of the city
Walking down the cobblestone path to the center of the city....anxious to see the plaza where the famous Nuremberg Christkindlmarkt takes place every December! There are vendors set up around the plaza area selling ornaments, famous Lebkuchen (ginger cookies), foods, spiced wine (Glühwein), and all sorts of Christmas wares!
Yes, unfortunately, even Nuremberg has graffiti! :-(
